ABOUT CHARLES
A frequent guest of the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra, Charles Overton is a Boston-based harpist and performer of classical, jazz and world music. In 2009 Charles went on to attend the Interlochen Arts Academy to further his musical development under the direction of Joan Raeburn Holland during which time he was a prizewinner in the Young Artist Harp Competition and was twice a finalist for the Interlochen Arts Academy Concerto Competition.

Over the course of his musical career, Charles has attended several summer music festivals such as the Tanglewood Music Center, Pacific Music Festival, and the Castleton Festival where he has performed under the batons of conductors such as Stéphane Denève, Jun Markl, Stefan Asbury, and the late Lorin Maazel. Currently, Charles resides in Boston where he maintains an active performance schedule as a performer of classical, jazz and contemporary music. Recent engagements include an appearance at Scullers Jazz Club with his jazz ensemble: the Charles Overton Group, regular performances with the Boston Philharmonic, an appearance as a featured artist at the Dutch Harp Festival in concert with the Dutch National Youth Jazz Orchestra, as well as a performance tour of Spain performing Ginastera's Harp Concerto with Benjamin Zander's Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

Julian Loida & Charles Overton are a Boston-based vibraphone and harp duo that features their original music and influences that span jazz, global roots, ambient, R&B, and classical music. Charles and Julian first met in the New England Conservatory Big Band, but the two really only began to discover their sound as a duo after being asked to come together to develop a set for the Charles River Museum's Boiler House Jazz series. In their explorations together they have slowly uncovered quite a unique sound world in which the two instruments are able to blend and harmonize with each other in their shared resonances, while simultaneously complementing one another with the qualities that are unique to each instrument. As bandleaders and composers, each has released albums of original music with Charles' album Convergence and Julian's Wallflower. Together their refined taste and virtuosic technique allows for Julian & Charles to take their listeners on musical journeys leaving them transfixed.

Charles Overton is a Boston-based harpist and performer of classical, jazz, and world music. He began his harp studies at the age of ten, and was afforded the opportunity at an early age to perform internationally in such notable venues as Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. He performs regularly in symphonic settings with the Boston Pops, the BSO, and others, as well as appearing in jazz settings, both leading his own bands and collaborating with others.

Julian Loida is a Boston-based percussionist, composer, and producer. Loida’s musical curiosity and open-mindedness has propelled him towards a wide-range of sounds, genres, and artistic endeavors. He’s performed jazz, folk, and classical, collaborating with dancers, visual artists, songwriters/composers, and musicians of all stripes. The thirst to participate in and experience this range of sounds is partly a product of Loida’s synesthesia. Music is a full- body experience for him, with sounds often invoking involuntary sensations of color, texture, or even taste
